Job Description:

Assist the scientists in the design and application of research projects, as well as assist in compiling, analyzing data, and preparing reports for various research projects as per objectives.

  • Facilitate the implementation of wheat international nurseries
  • Participate in the phenotyping of wheat nurseries and yield trials across locations in Pakistan
  • Assist in grain samples collection and micronutrient analysis of wheat samples from different locations
  • Analysis of grain samples from various Zn biofortification trials for Zn and Fe using XRF machine or ICP analysis.
  • Agronomic fertilization strategies to see effect of genetically biofortified wheat varieties in sample.
  • Participate in the group meeting with CIMMYT-Pakistan and other national partners.
  • Assist research lead in protocols development,  and implementation of research protocols for the cultivation and improvement of the materials.
  • Collaborate in the design, the research, and the implementation of techniques for field measurements with high-tech equipment together with NARES partners.
  • Collaborate in the supervision of the work to ensure the techniques are performed or the crops are developed in compliance with established quality standards.
  • Collaborate in the field/laboratory activities as assigned and report situations that arise in the development of the project assigned.
  • Make periodic reports and tables that allow the program scientists to track their projects. Assist in writing articles.
  • Under the supervision of biometricians or projects, supervisors performs statistical analysis of the information collected in each of the stages of the crop cycle, through the development of a database, to present reports on the results achieved by the project.
  • Assist in the publication of research results through annual reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Under the directions of the science lead, participate in special projects with other partner research institutions and international organizations.
  • Contribute to the training and updating of knowledge and research techniques, to the rest of the staff working in the unit and keep updated on new research techniques or processes.
  • Visit and supervise other CIMMYT field trials and/or research fields of collaborators.
  • Organize field trips with researchers and visiting scientists of the Centre.
  • Conduct, if needed, field surveys and interviews with farmers, and convert raw data into meaningful information
  • Review publications for their inclusion into the database and collect information on the agricultural sector, to prepare articles and economic reports.
  • Keep a check on inventories of products and materials used and request a replacement when required.
  • Other activities as required by CIMMYT in support of its national and regional programs

Required Skills and specific experience:

  • Advanced knowledge of relevant administrative and/or operating research protocols of the function.
  •  Specialized knowledge in the field of expertise conducting breeding, varietal testing, and seed production research and research on the use of fungicides to control wheat rusts.
  • Requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within plant breeding and seed systems discipline.
  • Proven experience in handling crop research, variety release and production of pre-basic and basic seeds, seed quality management, and seed regulatory issues
  • Ability to analyze trial data with its scientific interpretation, carry out and explain computations or resolve complex problems.
  • The ability to communicate and relate effectively with others is very important.
